The village of Firostefani is a 10-minute walk away from nearby Fira, the capital of the gorgeous Greek island of Santorini. The name of Firostefani literally means "Crown of Fira" from the Greek word stefani, meaning crown. And the name is rightly given as Firostefani sits royally and elegantly above Fira on the Caldera.

The same type of traditional Cycladic white washed houses, narrow alleyways and views to the volcano can be found in Firostefani as in more vibrant Fira. But Firostefani offers a far more relaxed, quieter and peaceful holiday vacation location.

SANTORINI PALACE

A number of choices in holiday accommodation are available in Firostefani including luxury hotels like the Santorini Palace. There are also rooms for rent, apartments and studios you can spend a relaxing holiday vacation in. At Firostefani you can enjoy a laid back peaceful holiday but close enough to the more vibrant village of Fira for a little excitement.

Sightseeing

You'll find the bright red neoclassic building of Nomikos Conference Centre just opposite the cable car at Firostefani. It hosts the majority of the international scientific conferences and cultural events that take place in Santorini each year.

MINOAN SETTLEMENT ART

You'll find the nunnery of Agios Nikolaos between the villages of Firostefani and Imerovigli. It was built in 1651 and is dedicated to Agios Panteleimon, Agios Nikolaos and Zoodochos Pigi (life giving spring). The nunnery is home to Greek Orthodox nuns. It is the only Greek Orthodox convent in Santorini.

If you're staying in Firostefani then a visit to neighbouring Fira is a must. It's the capital of the island and offers many attractions to the visitor including three museums of note. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira, the Archaeological Museum of Santorini and the Folklore Museum all found in Fira.

The museums offer a glimpse into the fascinating history of the island of Santorini and how the island and the people were shaped.

Other Fira attractions are the shopping opportunities, a wide array of eateries, bars and nightlife.
